Biography + CV

Petra Kost. Artistically uncompromising.
From an early age, Petra Kost already manifested an extraordinary artistic feel. At the age of ten, she created a painting that stood out fundamentally from the work of other children: it had an autonomous presence, a mysterious intensity and an astonishing maturity that went far beyond childlike forms of expression.
For Petra Kost, this early experience marked the discovery that art could be far more than a medium of creative expression - rather an existential dialog between inner perception and the outer world. After her artistic talent received little family or institutional support as a child, Petra Kost continued her artistic education independently after graduating from high school. She first studied at a state art college, then art history at university. However, the strongly theoretical orientation of the academic institutions at the time did not correspond to her goal of acquiring a solid, technical foundation. At the beginning of the 1980s, she therefore made a conscious decision to pursue intensive and comprehensive training at private art schools. There she acquired in-depth knowledge of classical painting techniques, compositional principles, and color theory. In the years that followed, Petra Kost consistently developed an independent painterly language that mediates between the poles of abstraction and figuration.
Her works are characterized by complex layering and subtle superimpositions, in which calculated compositional decisions merge with intuitive, experimental elements. This results in multi-layered pictorial spaces whose visual tension and emotional density are particularly appreciated by critically reflective art gallery owners. Today, the expressive originality of her paintings is increasingly attracting the attention of discerning art lovers. Petra Kost's works not only offer an aesthetic dialog with the beholder, but also provoke intensive contemplation and reflection beyond the limits of the visible.
Petra Kost currently lives and works in Hamburg and Urbino (Italy).
